Bayou Renaissance
My Inspiration for my fall and winter collection was New Orleans architecture. I have always admired the city's culture and how you can see the many different cultures influences in the art, music, food, and buildings. I have seen New Orleans culture portrayed in today's pop culture such as music, tv,fashion, and film.
What I truly love about the city is that even though the city has been conquered by different countries ; instead of cultivating to its new culture , the city would just add new influences into it's culture. I feel that in life we go through many changes, and instead of just starting over we should embrace the change in our lives but never forget where we come from and embrace our new beginnings.
I wanted my collection to reflect New Orleans Creole cottages ( shot gun houses) and it's signature silhouettes of the railing and windows, with a twist of the bayou atmosphere. So I chose teal to imitate the copper railing of the building , the pleating to replicate the window framing, and applique to resemble the french couture.
